What is Freon?

Freon is a refrigerant used in older AC systems that is currently being phased out in the United States

Freon Refills Made Easy

Freon is used in Air Conditioning systems in a closed loop to cool homes and businesses. However, while the term “Freon” is still commonly used to refer to all types of refrigerants, actual Freon is being phased out (by law) in the United States.

This is similar to the way people say, “I need a Kleenex” when really they are asking for a tissue. If you have a newer AC system, it is highly likely that you no longer use Freon in your system.

If  you know what type of refrigerant you need, you can see the pricing here.

One reason Freon is becoming illegal in the United States is because it is toxic. Air conditioning systems are in a closed loop and Freon should not technically ever escape this system. However, AC systems do get holes and the Freon escapes into the environment. Freon in the air is dangerous for us to breath and causes other damage to the earth.

That is why all new air conditioning systems being installed should use 410a, or Puron.

If you want to have a Freon refill, or find out about switching your air conditioner system to a 410a Puron system, contact our partner air conditioning company.
